Stéphanie Homola received her PhD in social anthropology from the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS) in 2013, with a dissertation on divinatory practices in contemporary China and Taiwan. She has been a Research Fellow at Collège de France. She is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Centre d’études sur la Chine moderne et contemporaine (CECMC) at EHESS, and a Research Associate at the International Consortium for Research in the Humanities "Fate, Freedom and Prognostication. Strategies for Coping with the Future in East Asia and Europe" at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
Her present work in the field of anthropology of knowledge focuses on hand mnemonics in fate prediction methods as a specific pattern of knowledge. She is also interested in comparative perspectives, in particular with East-Asian countries and India, and has taught a course on "Conceptions of time and space in India and China" at EHESS. She is also a member of the research projects "Pratiquer le comparatisme: terrains, textes, artefacts" (EHESS) and "Chinese religions in France" (EPHE/CNRS).
