Zhigang Ji

Professor

Zhiang Ji studied History of Mathematics at Northwest University China and graduated with a PhD in 1994. He has taught at Shanghai Jiao Tong University as professor in the School of History and Culture of Science since 2000. He is the president of the Chinese Society for the History of Mathematics (2015-2019), and also an executive member of the council of the Chinese Society for the History of the Science and Technology (2015-2019). His main research interest lies in exploring the communication and influences of Mathematical knowledge between China and the West, specializing the transmission of western mathematical knowledge in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. His main publications are: Communication and Transmission of Mathematical Knowledge along the Silk Road (Chinese, 2018), A Cultural Perspective on Mathematics (Korean version, 2011), and Mathematics in the Northern-Southern, Sui and Tang Dynasties (Chinese, 2000). He has directed two projects: Studies on the Cultural History of the Chinese Translation of the Jihe yuanbe, sponsored by the Fund Program of National Social Sciences; and Communication and Transmission of Mathematical Knowledge along the Silk Road, sponsored by the Fund Program of Humanities and Social Sciences of Ministry of Education.
