Executive Director Dagmar Schäfer on Mobility and Humanities
"The potential of a topic such as mobilities is that it allows you to do transdisciplinary work in an entirely new sense": Dagmar Schaefer speaks about how the humanities help us in understanding mobility and which kind of research is currently happening at the intersection of these two topics at the MPIWG. Mobility & Humanities: A Taster is an Interview Series with speakers who are not only key figures in the mobility debate, but also scholars offering a variety of research angles from which to look at the mobility & humanities nexus in fresh and unprecedented ways.
The scientific objective of the Centre for Advacned Studies in Mobility and the Humanities is to significantly advance the study of mobility, understood as the movement of people, objects, ideas and texts in past and present societies as well as in different geographical contexts. Taking advantage of a rich and unique mix of disciplines, with a distinctive reference to the connections between past and present times (from antiquity to contemporaneity), the Centre aims to contribute to the emerging area of mobility study through the humanities, which is increasingly pursued by other research hubs worldwide.
