Eurydice Georganteli studied art history and archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and numismatics at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Before joining Harvard University as Lecturer in Late Antique and Byzantine Art History and Numismatics, she was the Keeper of Coins at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts and Lecturer in Numismatics at the University of Birmingham, UK (2000–2016) and Marie Curie Senior Research Fellow (European Commission for Research and Innovation, 2013–2016). An award-winning curator, author, and academic tutor, Georganteli has taught in Europe and North America, curated exhibitions, and published on art, numismatics, archaeology, cultural heritage, and digital storytelling. Her project at the MPIWG, “Astral Knowledge on Ancient and Medieval Coins,” sits at the intersection of visual culture, the history of science, religion, political ideology, and economics in ancient and medieval Eurasia. A specialist in Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, Georganteli uses material culture, written sources, and the changing patterns in the geography of transport to trace economic and cultural exchange in the late antique and medieval world. She is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and the Royal Numismatic Society, and a Trustee at the Hellenic College Holy Cross. She sits on the Editorial Board of the American Numismatic Society, the UK Money and Medals Network Expert Panel, the Leo Mildenberg Numismatic Committee at Harvard, and the Board of the Mary Jaharis Center for Byzantine Art and Culture.
