Affiliated Scholar Sonja Brentjes has received the Annemarie Schimmel Foundation award for her book  Teaching and Learning the Sciences in Islamicate Societies (800–1700). The award of 5,000 euros was given at the Deutsche Orientalistentag (DOT) 2022 to two scholars deemed to have made outstanding research contributions in the field of Islamic Studies.
