Lecture: "Intersectional Diversity"

The sociologist Andrea D. Bührmann is a professor of the sociology of diversity.  In 2013, she founded the Institute for Diversity Research in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. Since then, she has been the managing director. 

Bührmann was initially Vice President for Studies and Teaching from 2015-2017 and, after her re-election in 2017-2021, Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Equal Opportunities at the University of Göttingen. In 2021, she was elected as the first spokesperson for the State Working Group of Institutions for Women's and Gender Studies in Lower Saxony (LAGEN). 

Her current research focuses on the sociology of diversity and gender relations (Diversity and Gender Studies); Sociology of work and economic sociology/ Changes in work and its organizational structures, entrepreneurship research; Methodology and methods of (qualitative) empirical social research, especially practice research and research on (social) practices in organizations; Sociology of knowledge, particularly studying transformations of knowledge production and consulting.

As part of the colloquium "Let's Talk about Gender!", she will speak on March 13 about "Intersectional Diversity Research: A Key Factor for Excellent Research?"
Bührmann will first present her initial perspective and then propose some conceptual clarifications. She will then present various strategies for dealing with intersectional diversity before reconstructing different types of diversity strategies in terms of their central determining factors. She also discusses the opportunities and risks of implementing an intersectional diversity strategy. Finally, she draws a conclusion.

The lecture will be held in English.
